Everyone has distinct criteria when it comes to finding the perfect vacation spot. Some seek luxury, and some crave history and character. What if we told you that this little old charmer has both? Settled in a 19th-century building on the old grounds of a former monastery, Almayer Art & Heritage Hotel in Zadar is like an old book cover with a great mix of amazing history and beautiful illustrations.
Like every book, it needed its writer and designer, and that is what the owners Irina and Vjekoslav were to this place. They wrote a new exciting chapter for this 1863 building by completely transforming it into a modern retreat that still exudes its old charm. Their passion for design, unusual and exceptional history, and Zadar's heritage flooded the whole space. Neutral colors, clean lines, and the contrast of metal and iron created a harmonic result.
The name 'Almayer' is inspired by the guesthouse of the same name in Alessandro Baricca's novel Ocean Sea. We love the connections between these two. In Alessandro's Almayer Inn, an artist dips his brush in ocean water to paint a beautiful portrait of the sea. And in Almayer Art & Heritage Hotel, the artists are Irina and Vjekoslav. The ideas and visions are painted on every detail and corner of this hotel.
