Imagine snowboarding in the middle of the city with stunning views over the Adriatic sea. Sounds unreal, don't you think? Not for the citizens of Rijeka and the contestants of the Carnival Snowboard Session. This extremely attractive snowboarding competition has a unique snow slope just a few meters from the sea. This year they decided on something a bit different and chose Platak as their new Carnival Snowboard Session location, which is just as spectacular as the previous one!

Carnival Snowboard Session 2023

Mark February 12 on your calendars! On that day, you will have a one-of-a-kind opportunity to see world-class snowboard athletes from all over Europe show their skills and tricks just a little above the city of Rijeka on the famous ski slopes of Platak. Eleven times, Carnival Snowboard Sessions were held in the heart of Rijeka. They would bring 200 cubic meters of snow from Platak and make a snow slope unique in the world, just next to the sea. But for the twelfth time, organizers from the Snowboard club "Nine" decided on a little bit different location – Platak. Don't worry, there is no shortage of sea views here, either! In the mountainous company of Snježnik and Risnjak and only half an hour's drive from the city of Rijeka, Platak is the only ski resort with a breathtaking view of the sea. What makes it special is that in one moment, you can ski and sleigh, and in the next, stroll along the beautiful sea.

But that is not all! You have probably noticed the word 'carnival' in the name of the event, right? Well, that is because this snowboard contest is held during the world-famous Rijeka Carnival. Proudly standing next to their world rivals, Venice Carnival and Rio Carnival, Rijeka offers good fun, delicious food, and even greater show and costumes. So if you are a fan of extreme sports such as snowboarding and love dressing up in fun costumes, Rijeka Carnival is a perfect way to enjoy both. According to Rijeka Tourist Board, the International Carnival Parade will be held on February 19.

Adrenaline Rush, Good Fun, and Carnival

The 12th Carnival Snowboard Session will be held on Sunday, February 12, at 2:00 p.m. This will be the first time that this event will be held on Platak, the place where most snowboarders from the region made their first moves on a snowboard.

CSS will gather male and female snowboard riders from Austria, Italy, Croatia, Hungary, Slovenia, Serbia, Romania, and Bosnia and Herzegovina to compete in the slopestyle discipline. The contestants will perform jumps and acrobatics to earn their place on the podium. We are sure there will be lots of 'wows' from the audience. The prize fund of the competition is 1000 euros, and the competition is also the Primorje-Gorski Kotar County Snowboard Championship. Pssst… we have heard that the organizers are also planning a great after-party. So lots of fun, lots of laughs, and lots of great company.
