The Charming Town of Medveja
Medveja is a small charming village on the eastern coast of Istria, located between Lovran and Mošćenička Draga. The famous pebble beach of the same name is located in a picturesque bay, which was naturally created by a stream flowing from the slopes of the Učka Mountain into the Adriatic Sea. Originated from a small fishing village, Medveja has become a tourist resort with several hotels, apartments, and a well-equipped campsite close to the sea.
Various contents are available on the beach, such as renting umbrellas and deck chairs. For recreational sports lovers, there are SUPs, kayaks, jet-skis, underwater scooters available for rent, and also an aqua park. For refreshments, there is a beach bar with a wide variety of cocktails, cafes for enjoying a good cup of coffee, pastry shops with ice cream, and restaurants where you can enjoy local fish and meat specialties.
During the day, the beach is perfect for an indulgent and relaxing vacation. However, in the evening, it becomes the center of nightlife with after-beach parties.
Medveja is a delightful and authentically natural place with one of the most scenic views. Here you are free to let go of all your cares and indulge in swimming, sunbathing, and pure enjoyment. In Medveja, there is enough space for everyone to find their piece of heaven. Just like Medea once did.
Legend of Medea
In Greek mythology, Medea is the enchantress who helped the Argonauts' leader, Jason, steal the Golden Fleece from her father, King Aeëtes of Colchis. She was of divine descent and had the gift of prophecy and sorcery, which was given to her by the goddess Hecate.
According to legend, Medea came across this beautiful beach in one of her wanderings. She could not resist swimming in its crystal clear sea, so this place became known throughout the Greek lands, and a settlement was formed around it.
The Greeks had left the Adriatic coast long ago, but myths and stories about their adventures still live on in folk traditions. Thus, Medea remained immortalized in the memories and legends of the local people, who named this beach after the divine sorcerers.
