The Word's First Via Crucis Underwater Museum
Tucked away in the picturesque cove Jelinak, the museum is a beautiful representation of the 14 Stations of the Cross, featuring 52 life-size sculptures, each weighing a crazy 60 tons! At the end of each station, there is a stone plaque with a serial number and text in the English language. The journey ends with an 8-meter-tall statue of Jesus Christ that symbolizes the 15th station. Imagine seeing this in person. Incredible!
The story behind this spiritual yet stunning place started in 2017 when Joško Kandija, the owner of the Blue Nautica diving school, and Valentino Valent, who owns Lončarstvo Val, had this fantastic idea for the "Via Crucis Underwater Museum." With some support from the Croatian Parliament, they made it happen, and now Croatia proudly boasts the only underwater Via Crucis in the world. Crafted with great care and attention, each sculpture is a unique masterpiece that celebrates human creativity.
Suitable for Everyone
While this museum is underwater – it really is suitable for everyone. The sculptures are not too deep. They rest gracefully at a depth of only four to five meters, except for the Jesus statue, which stands tall at ten meters, representing the Resurrection. So yeah, diving is suitable for everyone, whether you are an experienced diver, an absolute scuba beginner, or one who has never experienced the mesmerizing landscapes of the sea depths. Additionally, due to the excellent visibility in perfectly clear waters and shallow depths, even regular swimmers, snorkelers, and freedivers can see the statues.
Environmentally Friendly Sculptures
Joško Kandija and Valentino Valent also made sure that sculptures are not only awe-inspiring but also environmentally friendly too. Namely, each sculpture is crafted from eco-friendly concrete. Now, these magnificent statues have become a living canvas for marine life, enhancing the enchanting atmosphere of the underwater world. Whether you're a believer or not, the sheer impressiveness of the statues is undeniable, making it a must-visit destination for anyone looking for an unforgettable experience beneath the waves.
The prices for this breathtaking underwater journey range from 50€ to 80€. Suppose you opt for the scuba diving package.
