While the island of Lošinj is closely associated with aromatherapy, one of the most significant advantages of visiting this sunny island is seeing dolphins in their natural habitat. Namely, the Cres-Lošinj archipelago is home to over 200 bottlenose dolphins enjoying crystal clear waters, playing, swimming, and jumping in their natural surroundings. If you want to experience it first hand, go on a boat ride tour by Dolphin Watching Adriatic and be awed by the charming dolphins in freedom.
A Slice of Paradise Set in Adriatic Sea
Located on the northern Adriatic in Kvarner Bay, this charming island was a favorite destination of the Austro-Hungarian aristocracy, thanks to its exceptional climate. Even today, Lošinj boasts beautiful villas, summer houses, and numerous 5-star hotels that provide top-notch wellness services. But what will surely delight you on this island are the charismatic dolphins. Lošinj's bottlenose dolphins are the most famous Adriatic dolphins because their research has been going on for three decades. Here, each dolphin is known by name. Vivian, Tac, and Mida are the oldest and are over 30 years old. Amazing, isn't it? The coexistence of these intelligent animals and the island's inhabitants is a beautiful story, a friendship that passes from generation to generation.

Go on a Dolphin-Watching Tour with Dolphin-Watching Adriatic
Your tour begins at the Lošinj Sea Education Center, where you will learn all about these sweet and always smiling animals. After a short presentation, you board the boat, put on your life jackets, and your unforgettable adventure begins! The boat ride in the beautiful Lošinj waters is an experience in itself. Imagine the fresh sea air, the wind slowly blowing your hair, and the sun rays warming your cheeks. And the view – enchanting! We can't forget a small dose of adrenaline. Hey, you're looking for dolphins! And once you see them, it will take your breath away. It is important to approach slowly and quietly, to not scare them away. In Croatia, we have the phrase 'svakog gosta tri dana dosta', which basically means three days is plenty for any guest to stay. And something like that also applies when visiting dolphin habitats. You will have 30 minutes to chit-chat with these animals, take pictures, enjoy their jumps, and swim through the boat's wake. But, then, you will have to leave; we know we would love to stay there longer too, but it is their home, after all.
What we love about Dolphin Watching Adriatic tours is that all the income from ticket sales goes to co-financing research at the Blue World. The Blue World's Adriatic Dolphin Project is the longest ongoing study of a bottlenose dolphin population in the Mediterranean Sea, the Cres-Lošinj archipelago, to be exact, and one of the longest in the world.
Pssst… We Know Another Way of Seeing these Beautiful Creatures
Few people know that on Lošinj, there is a hiking trail called 'Dolphin Way,' which connects the eastern and western coasts of the island. And just off that trail, if there are good weather conditions, and if you are lucky, you may see a playful school of dolphins. The trail begins at Borik cove (Sunčana cove) and ends at Veli Lošinj. There are also many hidden gems on the Dolphin Way trail, but we'll leave it to you to discover.
Adopt a Dolphin!
Yes, you can even adopt a dolphin on the island of Lošinj! Thanks to the Blue World Institute's program 'Adopt a Dolphin,' you can help the Institute to continue its research and protection of bottlenose dolphins in the Adriatic. How great is that? Also, we must mention that Dolphins in Croatia are declared a specially protected animal species.
So how about making your trip an adventure and heading to the island of Lošinj and spotting one of the most beautiful and intelligent animals in the Adriatic sea – dolphins? Sounds tempting, right?
