Explore Vugava, the Oldest Autochthonous Croatian Wine

Known as 'the queen of white wines,' Vugava wine is regarded as one of Croatia's best white wines. A refreshing, easy-to-drink wine with a high alcohol percentage, this wine pairs well with healthy Mediterranean seafood dishes. Furthermore, its aroma and sweetness make it an excellent addition to traditional desserts or cheese tapas. This vine ripens earlier and preserves the acidity, which is why it was used to make Prosecco.

According to DNA analysis, Vis is an autochthonous wine variety and the genetic center of Vugava wine. Vis, once known as the Greek colony of 'Issa', proudly bears the label of the island of wine. As a main source of income for thousands of years, wine might be said to be woven into the genetic code of the Vis people.

Lipanović winery - the long-standing tradition

This family-owned winery continues the 150-year-old tradition of making wine in Vis. They are located in a tunnel building that was left behind by the army, which is an interesting fact about their winery. We now understand the full potential of this variety as a result of Lipanović's Vugava wine.

"Vugava is reminiscent of flat peaches, almonds, and apples, while its rich taste suggests sweetness even though it is 100% dry."

Rokis Winery - ecological produce

Founded in 1991, Rokis winery has received Trip Advisor's certificate of excellence three years in a row. As a result of Vis' unique climate, they have been producing grapes organically for nearly two decades. As a result, the winery's cultivation is solely based on organic principles. They are renowned for their freshness and quality, making them some of the most beautiful wines in Dalmatia.

Vugava wine is described as rounded and richer on the palate, and it pairs well with grilled fish and octopus.

“When cultivating the vineyard, this variety requires a lot of attention and care because it is sensitive to weather and diseases. This wine has a powerful yellow-green color and has a fruity and pronounced bouquet.”

Vislander - explore wine tasting tours

According to Vislander winemakers, "a wine for life" is their official slogan, and authenticity and simplicity are their core values. As a result, the highest quality and authenticity of wine are also emphasized.

Served with locally grown seafood or vegetables, such as asparagus or artichokes, Vugava wine has a golden-yellow color. Its aroma is reputed to have the fruitiness of peach and apricot evoking it to “flow into a slightly smokey herbal note of Mediterranean plants and thyme.”
