COLENTUM, Island of Murter
Our first stop takes us to the island of Murter, where the remnants of the ancient city of Colentum await your exploration. Dive into history as you visit the first archaeological beach in Croatia, where informative panels guide you through the story of Colentum. For the adventurous souls, a dive into the sea reveals the most impressive attraction: two enormous cages filled with ancient amphorae and a plethora of large stones that once served as ballast for trading ships. As evening descends, the beach exudes a romantic ambiance, illuminated not only by moonlight but also by enchanting lights. And did we mention the beach has a swing? It's an ideal spot for capturing exquisite Instagram-worthy moments!
Faust Vrančić Memorial Center, Island of Prvić
Continuing our island hopping journey, we make our way to the island of Prvić, known for its connection to the renowned scholar Faust Vrančić. Visit the Faust Vrančić Memorial Center and delve into the story of his remarkable inventions, including the parachute (yep, you read that right!) bridges, olive and grape mills, and timepieces. Explore the island further by walking or biking along its scenic paths, visit the OPG Šmit, and immerse yourself in the captivating scents of Mediterranean island flora used in daily life during Faust's time. It's the perfect place to unwind and escape from the ordinary.
Zlarin, Island of Corals
Next, we sail to the island of Zlarin, known as the ''Island of Corals''. This year, Zlarin has welcomed the Croatian Coral Center, an innovative attraction that tells the story of coral harvesting—the island's most significant cultural heritage. Experience "red like you've never seen before" at this unique center, which preserves the allure and significance of red coral. Dive into the rich history of coral harvesting deeply ingrained in the island's identity since the 15th century. The center houses permanent exhibitions on the ecosystem, protected species of the Šibenik archipelago, along with the coral cultivation traditions, and features a reading room and souvenir shop.
A World of Sea Sponges, Krapanj Island
Our fourth destination takes us to Krapanj Island, where the tradition of sea sponge farming has been passed down for centuries. In the late 17th century, Fra Antun, who hailed from Crete, imparted the knowledge of sponge farming and diving to the people of Krapanj. Their expertise led to the introduction of diving apparatus and the establishment of a sponge cooperative in 1911. The courage and experience of Krapanj divers are legendary, as they would descend into the depths of the sea with heavy diving equipment and brave the challenges of the underwater world. The Adriatic sponge, known as "Fina," is renowned worldwide for its beauty, softness, durability, and absorbent power. Delve into the captivating world of sponges, where they are not only used for cosmetic and health purposes but also find applications in ceramics, industry, and decoration.
Visitor Centre St Anthony's Channel
Our final destination takes us to the visitor center St Anthony's Channel, the central hub for showcasing the biodiversity, natural wonders, and cultural treasures of Šibenik-Knin County. Step into a playful world of visual exhibits, multimedia content, and didactic models that allow you to experience the magical underwater world and the biological diversity of the region. The center offers educational workshops, a multimedia hall for projections and lectures, a souvenir shop, and outdoor facilities such as rest areas, an amphitheater, a coffee bar, a playground, and a walking route specially designed for blind and partially sighted visitors.
The channel itself is one of the most beautiful places to visit in Šibenik. It is over 200m in length and connects Šibenik's bay with the open sea. Along the channel, you can visit many interesting spots, such as the impressive fortress of St Nicholas (UNESCO World Heritage Site), the military sea tunnel, and the church of St Anthony, built within a cave.
