If you're an adventure seeker always looking for new challenges, then the Life on Mars Trail Run on island of Pag is just the right thing for you. This unique running event takes place on one of the most magical islands in Croatia, offering a surreal landscape and a thrilling trail running experience that you won't find anywhere else.
Surreal Landscapes and a Breathtaking Trail
The first Life on Mars was held in 2017. It was named after a famous David Bowie song, and when you look at island of Pag's remarkable and unique landscape, it truly fits this event perfectly. The Life on Mars Trail Run is an annual event that takes place every spring, typically in March, when the weather is mildly warm. There are three trails: a light 7km, an active 15km, and a challenging 24km run. All of these trails will take you through various landscapes, from rocky hills and steep cliffs to sandy beaches and turquoise coves. Trails are marked with ribbons and signs but are still technical courses that require good fitness and agility. You'll need to navigate narrow paths, scramble over rocks, and climb up steep hills, all while taking in the stunning views of the island and the Adriatic Sea.
What makes the Life on Mars Trail Run truly unique is the otherworldly landscape of Pag Island. Known for its stark beauty and lunar-like terrain, Pag is a place that will make you feel like you've stepped out of a spaceship after landing on Mars. The island is dotted with rock formations and salt pans, and its barren landscape is home to unique plant and animal species. The trail run will take you through some of the most stunning parts of the island, including the lunar landscape of the Dubrava plateau and the salt pans of Pag's southern coast.
But don't let the rugged terrain and surreal landscape fool you - the Life on Mars Trail Run is also a fun and social event. Runners of all levels are welcome, and the event attracts a diverse crowd of local and international participants. After the run, you can enjoy the post-race party, where you can share your trail running stories with fellow runners and sample some of the delicious local food and wine.

Tips to Help you Prepare for Life on Mars
Train well. The course is challenging, so make sure you're in good shape and have experience with trail running. If you're a beginner, then we recommend taking the Light 7km trail, which is a great choice for beginners and recreational runners. But if you're experienced, you should opt for 15- or 24km trails.
Prepare clothing and footwear suitable for the trail and weather conditions. Trail running shoes with good grip are essential, as well as comfortable and breathable clothing. Of course, take enough water(or any other liquids) in accordance with the trail you picked. Also, pack some energy bars; they always come in handy. Because of the rocky Pag terrain, you will also need a first aid kit(bandages, gauzes, band-aids). You will receive your starting number both on your clothing and on your mobile phone, so keep them close.
But above all, enjoy the scenery. Don't forget to take in island of Pag's stunning views and unique landscape. Life on Mars Trail is a challenge, but it's also a once-in-a-lifetime adventure. It is exciting and unforgettable, combining the thrill of trail running with the surreal beauty of one of Croatia's most magical islands. So if you're up for a challenge and want to experience something truly special, this event is not to be missed. See you on the trails!
