Castle's History and Influence of the Janković family
In the late 18th century, Julian Fekete of Galante bought the entire manorial property from Prince Casimir Esterhazy of Galante. Namely, Julijan was the mother of Ivan Nepomuk Janković, and the Janković family is a key element in creating the cultural heritage and history of Suhopolje. To make it a center of the estate, it was necessary to construct administrative and residential buildings. The current look of the castle is due to Elemir Janovic, who was the last to rebuild the castle. He also built a chapel on the property where his son Elemir, his wife Ilka, and himself were buried. After the death of Elemir, the castle was inherited by his son Andrija, and in 1931 he decided to sell it. From 1942 to 1945, Janković Castle belonged to the Croatian School and Educational Foundation. Until 1960, the castle was an orphanage, then an elementary school, a kindergarten, and a residential building.
