Celebrate New Year's Eve in Old Pannonian House in Baranja
New Year's Eve is all about celebrating and having fun with family and friends, right? So how about doing something extra special this year that will maybe turn into a tradition? Without the New Year's stress, crowded hotels, or waiting at the buffets…. just you, your friends, great food, and a charming old house? Sounds amazing, don't you think? Well, we have found that little paradise for you in Baranja. This beautiful region of Slavonia in the east of Croatia will delight you with its charming wine roads, mystical hidden paths, beautiful nature, and smiling faces of local people. But also with its ethnographic magic!
And what better way to discover it than staying in an over a hundred-year-old house. Set in the same spot as in 1904 on a family ranch Stara Baranja, an autochthonous Pannonian house called "kuća Popa Nikole" is perfect for family gatherings and creating beautiful memories. The original furniture is preserved in the house's front and back rooms, which will take you on a breathtaking journey to the past. Don't expect luxury because this house is certainly not that. It offers wealth but in tradition, history, and hospitality. Is there something better than that? The house also comes with a unique wine cellar, one of the oldest and the largest in the village. You can try some of the best Baranja wines there while the owners will tell you the stories about the house, family, and everything specific to this area. Or you can just sit, relax and enjoy traditional Baranja specialties such as Kulen, Čvarci, and Kulenova Seka, silly swap stories about things that happened this year with your loved ones, play games, dance, and have fun. Sounds pretty good to us
What to see and visit nearby?
While you are in Baranja, visit the region's oldest wine cellar - the Belje Wine Cellar from 1526, which is only 150 meters away from the Stara Baranja ranch. Behind its large wooden doors, this wine cellar hides three floors of long cellars filled with barrels made of the best Slavonian oak. The Belje wine cellar also has a tasting room, a wine store, and a souvenir shop. A visit to Baranja without a visit to the Kopački rit Nature Park is unimaginable. This beautiful park is one of the largest European wetlands and is home to thousands of biological species. We also recommend going to the Tikveš castle, part of the Kopački rit Nature Park. The beautiful castle dates back to the end of the 19th century and was built by members of the Teschen family line and the Habsburg family.
