This fall, the world of interior design is experiencing a renaissance, marked by bold, rich colors that add sophistication, depth, and character to any space. One hue, in particular, has taken center stage: burgundy. This luxurious, deep red shade, full of warmth and drama, has become a favorite among designers. Leading the trend in wall coverings is the brand Studijo, which has just launched its new "Experiments & Gradients" collection, celebrating this very color. Designer Josipa Maras, the creator of the collection, gives us an inside look at the wallpapers that will not only provide designers with fresh tools to transform spaces but also win you over at first glance.

"Opojna" – A Wallpaper to Be Remembered
Studijo’s new collection is a result of months of inspiration. According to Josipa Maras, the artist behind these timeless and authentic wallpapers, the journey began with sketches that started unclear and incomplete, but the creative process soon led her to discover her new artistic voice. She combined contrasting elements and flawlessly integrated this season's standout color into contemporary interior design. The burgundy wallpapers were designed to give walls a bold, artistic stamp, creating a space that exudes modern elegance and luxury.
Among the standout designs in the collection is "Opojna" – a wallpaper destined to be talked about for years to come. It’s one of those pieces you’ll surely see adorning the walls of impressive interiors. Its ability to adapt to various color schemes and styles, combined with its fluid watercolor-like texture, makes it unique. Maras herself admits that "Opojna" is one of those designs she couldn’t recreate even if she tried. Alongside "Kapija" and "Kontrolfik," she returns to her signature style, deeply rooted in historical heritage. Though she finds it difficult to choose a favorite from the new collection, Josipa gives a slight edge to a wallpaper with a meaningful name – "Basna."
“I was inspired by a window display I saw in Paris, showcasing beautiful wooden animal silhouettes. The scene instantly captivated me, and I began sketching. But soon, I hit a creative block—nothing I envisioned on paper was working. In moments like those, faith is key. I shifted my focus, spent time in nature, and searched for that spark that would make the wallpaper as beautiful as I had imagined it in my mind. Thankfully, trusting the process and staying disciplined allowed me to create 'Basna.' Now, I can’t stop looking at it, and I hope it will be cherished by future generations," Josipa Maras explains.
Art is a Journey for Those Who Dare to Lead
Josipa also reflects on her inspiration, drawn from historical heritage, which she says is rich and boundless, and shouldn’t go untold. It’s a source of creativity free of expectations or guarantees.
“I never have a guarantee that my efforts will pay off, or that my experiments will be embraced by the audience. The only thing I have is my inner calling and the desire to channel what I’ve been gifted with—my talent and the drive to express myself creatively through painting. That’s where the true beauty of art lies, but also the price of the creative process, a privilege only for those brave enough to lead the way down an unknown path. I truly believe that art is a journey for those who dare to be first," Maras adds.
Gradients: The New Trend in Basic Wallpapers
A significant part of the new collection includes a range of basic wallpapers called "Gradients," which offer a simple yet visually powerful presentation of colors and depth, bringing freshness to modern spaces. Gradients allow for a smooth transition between shades, creating a sense of movement and playfulness, perfect for adding dynamic sophistication to any room. The gradient effect enables designers to play with different tones and intensities, turning walls into a living element of the design, adding layers and depth without needing additional decorations. Through Studijo's custom-made service, these wallpapers can be tailored to create entirely personalized interiors.
“Gradients were something I felt was missing in the world of wall coverings, and we’re proud to be the first to offer this kind of design in the basic wallpaper segment. By adjusting the intensity of the chosen color, we can create spaces that are truly unique, each in its own impressive way. This approach allows designers to subtly, yet powerfully, craft spaces that are both calming and daring in color,” emphasizes the founder of Studijo Wallart.
The Experiments & Gradients collection is now available on the newly redesigned Studijo website, specifically tailored to interior designers and the global market.
