Winemaking has been a respectable and profitable profession for more than 2000 years, and the history of the Vinodol valley has intertwined with wine.
Revitalizing the Winemaking of the Vinodol Valley
In the 1990s, a few Slavonian winemakers had to leave their vineyards because of the war, but they didn't turn their back on winemaking. Instead, they decided to settle in the Vinodol valley and breathe new life into the valley's trademark crop. One of the winemakers was Miroslav Palinkaš. Almost 30 years later, Palinkaš's dedication to his craft and work ethic have made his winery Pavlomir one of the most prestigious in Croatia.
Three Decanter 2022 Medals for Outstanding Pavlomir Wines
The world-famous Decanter wine tasting competition has recognized Pavlomir's quality. The winery is awarded three medals: one silver for the San Marino sparkling wine, two bronze for Barrique 225 Cabernet Sauvignon wine, and the 1288 Brut sparkling wine.
Palinkaš points out that San Marino is the only top-quality sparkling wine that uses Žlahtina, a variety of white wine, as its base.

The Winemaking Process
Constantly learning, experimenting, and investing in new technologies ― this year, the winery has planted 18 000 grapevine crops on a newly acquired piece of land. There are also two oenologists in the team committed to inventing new products for customers to enjoy. They also honor the tradition ― for example, they are diligent about picking grapes ― they never use a harvester, only their hands.
The handpicking process is more complex but gives a better result, as the selector chooses only the best grapes for the wine.
Indigenous Wine Varieties of the Vinodol Valley
Pavlomir Wine House produces excellent wine: from Cabernet Sauvignon, Frankovka, Pinot white, and Chardonnay to Muškat and many more. But, of course, every variety is a story of its own and demands a different approach and maintenance to realize its full potential.
The most popular wine variety is, without a doubt, Žlahtina. It is one of the 36 indigenous grapevine varieties of the Kvarner region, and its place of origin is the Vallis Vinearia.
Wine Tasting Tour of the Pavlomir Winery
The endless greenery of Pavlomir winery will enchant you! If you want to, you can choose to drink outside and enjoy the view, but the freshly renovated tasting room invites you to step inside. You can entirely focus on wine and fully immerse yourself in the tasting experience. Besides the Pavlomir wines, you can try the excellent Graševina from the Palinkaš family vineyard in Šaren Grad, Slavonia.
Where to Buy Pavlomir Winery Wines?
If you're wondering where to buy Pavlomir products besides visiting them directly, the winery has opened its store in Crikvenica, offering more than just wine. Instead, you can purchase authentic Croatian products made by small local businesses from all over the country, such as; wine, honey, olive oil, sparkling wine, traditional sweets, prosciutto, kulen, and cheese.
All products are made by a small business that cultivates an authentic production process with high-quality standards!
A century ago, vineyards covered about 600 hectares of land in the Vinodol valley. Vineyards cover about 5% of that today, and Wine House Pavlomir creates pure magic on less than that. So go and book a wine tasting ― we sure will!
