What makes wine great? Is it the taste, look of the bottle, catchy slogans, or artwork on the label? For some people, wine is something they pick up at the store and enjoy casually, a great way to celebrate. But true wine lovers will know that picking a bottle of wine is more than that!
A bottle of good wine will activate your taste buds and evoke emotions in you; it's art and science combined. If you want to taste Croatian wines, you will be surprised by their taste! Wine has been produced in this country for over 4,000 years. Mind-blowing, right?
More than three hundred Croatian wines won a medal at Decanter 2022. Croatian wines are more than a pretty bottle; this platinum award winner proves that. Made by the Šoškić winery, Haiku wine, like the name, says, is simple yet so profound; it is a form of poetry that awakens natural imagination and connect humans with nature.
What Makes This Wine So Unique?
Just over 20 kilometers from the largest city in Croatia, Zagreb, lies Plešivica. Although this wine region is the smallest in Croatia, it is one of the most famous and successful. With the tradition of growing vines measured not in centuries but millennia, the knowledge and experience of winemakers, and the landscape with its sunny slopes and "healthy" air that constantly flows, Plešivica guarantees a top-quality wine drop. So it's no wonder that back in 1992, Siniša Šoškić chose this location for wine production. What used to be three hectares of land and an old overgrown house is now an extraordinary estate where eight hectares of vineyards are cultivated, which make up almost 40,000 vines. The Šoškić winery says that the secret of the Haiku wine is in Japanese cherries. They surround the vines where the grapes for Haiku wine ripen, and those beautiful pink flowers give the vines a unique environment, encouraging it to give its best.

Taste.
Haiku changed our view of what we thought about wine. It is more than a classic Saturday night beverage; it is unique and complex, with brightness and freshness. With the first opening of the bottle, Haiku enchants with the powerful scent of apricot and orange peel. And before swirling and sipping – you will be amazed by its attractive color. You know the color can tell you a lot about wine, right? Well, this one has a great story to tell. That amazing color of the apricot comes from a long process of maceration and aging. Namely, the base of this exceptional wine is Rhine Riesling from Šoškić's best positions. As a result, each sip will play with your taste buds and provide an excellent refreshment.
How to Match Haiku Wine with Food
A bottle of good wine and food pairing brings the taste into balance. It is important to match the wine weight with the weight of the food. While Haiku wine is fresh yet strong, it will perfectly fit frittata with wild asparagus, white fish and crabs, mushroom risotto, or tuna. Grilled red meat and stews also go well with this wine. The serving temperature is 12°C.
Haiku wine by Šoškić winery deserves all the praise and awards it got! If you want to take a sip of this Decantes platinum-winning wine, you can find it on their website or on Croatia Revealed webshop. You will definitely love it!
