Visit the medieval town of Motovun in central Istria and experience the fall season in all its glory and abundance! The Teran wine and Truffle Festival is a unique opportunity to discover the best of Istrian delicacies while enjoying the stunning views of the Motovun forest and the Mirna river valley.
Teran is a unique grape variety drawing origins from the Istrian peninsula hundreds of years ago. However, the first mention of this indigenous Istrian wine dates back over 600 years ago. Its distinctive ruby red color and robust taste make it a perfect pair for strong-flavored cheeses, Istrian prosciutto, or truffles.
The truffle is considered an underground Istrian treasure. Istrian truffle varieties are particularly precious in the eyes of experts worldwide, as their exceptional quality matches (or often surpasses) the Italian varieties. The soil in the Motovun forest is quite damp, which makes it ideal for the growth of different types of oak - a tree growing in symbiosis with truffles. Truffles are harvested with the help of specially trained dogs, who are taught to track and dig them up. Truffle is an essential ingredient in gourmet cuisine, particularly in Istria, where you can find various dishes made with delicate white or black truffle.

A Combination Made in Heaven for all Gourmets and Foodies
The Teran Wine and Truffle Festival bring together these two stars of Istrian cuisine. The festival gathers Teran winemakers and producers in one place while also complementing the eno-gastronomic offer with various truffle dishes, emphasizing those that go best with Teran. Such a powerful and flavorful combination deserves to be honored the right way. There's no better place to do it than the historical town of Motovun when the best of both truffles and Teran comes from producers within that area!
The visitors will have a chance to taste exquisite wine from local winemakers and various truffle-based dishes prepared by professional chefs and bakers. The best-quality Teran will be chosen based on the visitors' votes, but the day's highlight is the declaration of the biggest truffle piece on the festival - some truffles can grow to weigh up to 500 grams!
