Opatija is far more than a summer getaway, as there are many ways to enjoy its romantic atmosphere throughout the year. But, if the way to your heart is through your stomach, you'll be delighted to hear Opatija hosts an entire festival dedicated to the most delectable treat of them all - chocolate.
The Chocolate Festival in Opatija is the most significant Croatian event dedicated to this sweet delicacy. During the three days of the festival, the whole town oozes chocolate, with exclusive products and treats around every corner.

Indulge in the Sweetest Weekend This Fall
The 16th edition of the festival will take place from the 11th to the 13th of November, 2022. The main event will be the Chocolate Magic fair in Opatija's cultural center Gervais. Over 30 craft producers will showcase their various chocolate desserts, whereas the center's first floor will be dedicated to small family businesses offering a range of chocolate treats. This is a unique opportunity to discover exquisite Croatian brands (as well as some international ones), offering rare delicacies whose flavors will surprise you with new ways to satisfy your sweet tooth.
Next to the leading fair, various chocolate delights will also be featured on the menus of restaurants across the town. You can also make chocolate part of your new favorite pampering ritual through specially designed choco spa and wellness treatments!
Immerse Yourself in the World of Chocolate Making
If you truly want to immerse yourself in the world of chocolate making, there's plenty of opportunity to learn more about it. For example, the exhibit titled From cocoa beans to chocolate will show you the complete transformation process from the bean to the bar. You can also get a hands-on experience in chocolate making in various workshops, where you'll learn all the secrets of master artisans of chocolate. The program is suitable for all ages. While the little ones may particularly enjoy painting workshops and choco-photo booths, a lively music program is also happening throughout all three days of the festival. All visitors are also in for a special surprise: they'll be able to witness the making of a chocolate dress and a chocolate painting!
Suzi Petričić, Director of the Tourist Board of Opatija, noted that Opatija and chocolate had been closely connected for over a decade and a half, adding that the Chocolate Festival is one of the most anticipated and best-attended events each year. This year will be a sweet start of an exciting array of events in these winter months and a magical prelude to the upcoming Advent time.
The doors of the Gervais cultural center will open for the main event on Friday, November 11. If you can't resist a treat or want to level up the romance of your stay in one of the most idyllic towns in the Adriatic, trust us - you don't want to miss this one-of-a-kind event!
