Each Year the Best Skiers on the Planet Meet in Zagreb’s Sljeme
A homage to the best Croatian skier Janica Kostelić, Snow Queen Trophy races are particular in many respects. First, this is the only place where the race winners are crowned as Snow Queen… yep they get the crown, mantle, and something really unique to experience! Second, Zagreb is the first and only capital city where World Ski Cup races are held. Indeed, with only 20 minutes of drive from the heart of Zagreb, you can jump into your skis, indulge in a crazy ride, and enjoy the most beautiful scenery. A real rarity anywhere in the world, which has placed Zagreb's slalom races in the company of the world's most prominent ski resorts, including Kitzbühel, Val Gardena, Wengen, and Val d'Isere. Did we mention the atmosphere surrounding the races? The Croats know how to celebrate and throw a party! And you can enjoy the best one at Krumpirište. When you are there, don't forget to try autochthonous dishes made following recipes prepared in nearby castles, peasant homes, or Zagreb civic residences. From roasted turkey with grinders and blood sausage with sauerkraut to Zagreb steak and Sauer cabbage pork ham. For the desserts, the delicious Gibanica made of three layers of apple, cottage cheese, and roasted hazelnuts; and of course, the most famous and definitely our favorite - Štrukli with creamy cheese. Yum!
Snow Queen Trophy – Exciting Experience From Start to Finish
This year, the Snow Queen Trophy race will host 80 of the world's best slalom skiers from 22 countries on three continents. Mikaela Shiffrin, Lindsey Vonn, and many others will fight for the Sljeme throne. The drawing of the starting numbers will take place on January 3 at one of the most beautiful squares in Zagreb - Trg Republike Hrvatske. Fifteen best female skiers will come to the draw accompanied by famous characters from dramas, operas, and ballets. Interesting, isn't it? The first women's slalom race will be held on Wednesday, January 4, with the first run starting at 12:30 p.m., while the second run of the world's best slalom women starts at 4:30 p.m. The second women's slalom is scheduled for Thursday, January 5, at a slightly later date, so the first race will begin at 3 p.m. and the second at 6 p.m. The Snow Queen Trophy ski race is followed all over the world, and this is best shown by the fact that the women's race in Sljeme 2021 achieved the highest TV viewership in live broadcasts of all women's and men's FIS World Cup races in the 2020/2021 season, and was even more watched than legendary descent race in Kitzbühel.
