But the excitement starts early with a warm-up period beginning on November 29, giving everyone a chance to enjoy the decorations and atmosphere before the big launch. While the snow might still be a dream, Zagreb is transforming into a winter wonderland, offering countless reasons to visit this beloved holiday event.

The opening ceremony, as always, begins with the lighting of the first Advent candle at Ban Jelačić Square. This symbolic moment marks the official start of the festivities, which will spread across 18 locations in the city. Although the Upper Town won’t host Advent events this year, there’s no shortage of dazzling spots to explore. Zrinjevac Park, Tomislav Square, European Square, and other popular locations will once again shine bright, while new venues like Dolac Market and Kvatrić bring fresh experiences to the program.

Tomislav Square’s Ice Park celebrates its 10th anniversary this year and promises to be as magical as ever. It’s not just an ice rink—it’s a place where families and friends come together to skate, sip warm drinks, and enjoy the holiday atmosphere. Nearby at Ban Jelačić Square, foodies will be in heaven with stalls offering a mix of classic and modern treats, including bagels with sausages, vegan fritters, and knedle. Don’t miss the new pop-up PLACe Market at Dolac on December 6 and 13, where top chefs will present unique holiday dishes.

For those who love street food and an urban vibe, Britanski Square will host the Food Truck Festival from December 2 to 7. This six-day event will feature international cuisines, winter beverages, live DJ performances, and even kids’ entertainment, making it perfect for visitors of all ages. Fuliranje, the ever-popular Advent spot, returns to Strossmayer Square with the theme Tko pjeva, zlo ne misli (“He Who Sings Thinks No Evil”). Zrinjevac Park remains the heart of the Advent experience. Its century-old trees, adorned with twinkling lights, create a romantic backdrop, while live music from the pavilion adds to the magic. Nearby, Jägerhorn’s passageway will be decorated with cozy holiday charm, offering a more intimate celebration.

Another exciting addition is Advent at the Esplanade Hotel, where the Oleander Terrace will feature a collaboration with JRE Croatia. Renowned chefs will prepare exclusive dishes in a luxurious setting, adding a touch of elegance to the season. Meanwhile, Kvatrić Square will host its own unique program, complete with themed Christmas cottages, live music, and a special opening performance by Hari Rončević.
