Today we are visiting Međimurje county, the northern-most region of Croatia. This hidden gem is known for its excellent gastronomy, castles, thermal water, and Murska Dekla gin.

Locals love tending to their gardens; that's why Međimurje is also known as the flower garden of Croatia, which is extremely good for local beekeepers. Namely, the area of Medimurje has a very long history and is connected to the Zrinski family. This great Croatian noble family influenced Croatia's political, social, and cultural development and Međimurje. Indeed, the great value of this area is precisely its people, who are hard-working, hospitable, accommodating, and big-hearted. These hard-working people are proud of their tradition, who made a special drink for all of us, a drink that best describes this region, and no matter where you are, only one sip will take you back there. Much love was invested in the production of Murska dekla, not only love for gin but also Medimurje. Using the traditional distillation technique of their ancestors, such as copper cauldrons, oak barrels, and carefully selected plants, three friends, Marko Car, Jurica Goričanec, and Ivan Blažon managed to satisfy even the most critical fans of this drink.
The name Murska dekla...
This beautiful area, with dense forests, undulating hills, beautiful fields, rivers, and playful streams, is also home to many local legends. There are many stories about witches and fairies. While the dragon hides under St. Martin on the Mura, the inhabitants greatly respect their Mura river. Namely, this river is very inconsistent and sometimes can become dangerous. And for everything terrible that would happen on the Mura, 'deklas' were blamed, a local word for fairy. So the creative name Murska dekla would be Murska vila.
We mustn't forget to mention the gorgeous design, which is very effective and creative and takes us back to the story of fairies, dragons, and witches.
This fragrant and aromatic gin, at the first sip, is very delicate, elegant, and has a refined taste. Its perfectly balanced ratio of spices and fruit provides freshness and ease of drinking. Accented citrus notes are complemented by blueberry and licorice. Together with other plants, it gives a specific aroma and, in the end, a superior product.
Although gin is often drunk in cocktails, we would heartily recommend you try Murska dekla on its own, with maybe just one ice cube.
