There's no doubt that you've heard of rakija, the iconic spirit enjoyed by Croatians and people from the Balkans. However, you've probably never heard of rakija made with immortelle or sage - Monika Kovač and Nives Matić, behind KuSshh, want to change that. Taking their accolades into account, they seem to be headed in the right direction!

The start of KuSshh 

The brand was born in 2015 when Kovač  and Matić decided to pursue a life away from the noise of the big cities. To explore the unknown, they bought a piece of land on the island of Krk, one of the largest islands in the Adriatic sea. Among the stunning nature and wilderness, they started their simpler farm life and started tending to their plants in order to produce various alcoholic drinks and essential oils. 

The plants grew and their business expanded - today they offer a range of products, including alcoholic drinks, organic cosmetics, essential oils, and non-alcoholic beverages. In addition to lavender, elderflower, olive trees, immortelle, sage, and rosemary, they grow and use 40 species of plants.

Mother Nature Knows Best

Their products are all handmade and they prefer the hands-on approach: they are involved in every stage of production. Additionally, their quality standards are exceptional - they produce organic and natural products of the highest quality. When it comes to caring for and nourishing our bodies, mother nature is the key theme and motivation behind their work. According to them, they want to showcase nature's best - and so far, their efforts have been rewarded!

Medal-Worthy Drinks

At the 2022 edition of the prestigious Frankfurt International Trophy contest, their most famous Immortelle rakija, made from organic immortelle, won the gold medal. Further, the jury of the London Spirits Competition concluded that KuSshh gin excels in every aspect of production, taste, packaging, and presentation. Rakija komovica, made from grape pomace, is the basis for both spirits. The rakija is macerated in it with immortelle, while the gin is infused with a variety of spices, including anise, lemon peel, cinnamon, and immortelle.

Their Fig rakija and Sage rakija, as well as their especially intriguing Black olive liqueur, are made from Rakija komovica. Their webshop offers Pelin, a traditional bitter liqueur made from wormwood, and Teranino, another liqueur popular among Croatians. Their products are available in their shops in Kamp Ježevac and Vrbnik, both on Krk island, or through the KuSshh website.

Can You Hear the Silence?

In the name of the brand, KuSshh emphasizes the silence that nature provides. The name KuSshh is derived from the hill Bok od Kuša (meaning 'Sage Hill'), combined with the rustling sound of the wind and sea. Its written form, 'shhhh', is an onomatopoeic sound with which we instruct others to keep quiet. Natural sounds, such as the sound of wind and water, are wielded by mother nature for the same purpose! 

They followed its advice and exchanged the big, frantic city for a life of tranquility. In today's world, silence surrounds them: it sits under every olive tree, hides inside every sage leaf, and awaits them at every turn.
