Has Croatia become a hidden gem for digital nomads? According to research made by NomadList.com, it appears that it is. Last July alone, as many as 3,000 digital nomads entered Croatia, of which 1,200 came to Zagreb, 1,200 to Split, and 600 to Dubrovnik. So what attracts them to this picturesque European country? Is it a wonderful environment, an authentic experience, food, or affordable accommodation?
Croatia as a European Digital Focal Point
Although the term "digital nomad" began to be used in the early 1990s, this trend has become more widespread thanks to the unfortunate COVID pandemic (and technology). As a result, more and more people began to love and embrace the idea of a location-independent lifestyle that allows them to travel and explore and work remotely. According to Exploding Topics, searches for "nomadic visa" have increased by 2,400% in the last five years. That gives us an idea about how this type of lifestyle has become popular. As a result, many countries are introducing visa options for digital nomads. Croatia has also joined this trend and become one of the first ten countries worldwide that allow digital nomads to obtain one-year residence permits. So what Croatia offers that is worthy of being placed among the top destination for digital nomads? Well, where should we start? From an amazing Mediterranean lifestyle and excellent connections to the rest of Europe to a good Internet connection and healthcare to rich and diverse cuisine and a comfortable climate, Croatia is a paradise!

How To Get the Residence Permit?
Suppose you are an EU citizen, by the regulations of the European Union as well as the Law on Citizens of Member States of the European Economic Area and their Family Members. In that case, you can work or provide services to employers both in Croatia and abroad for up to three months without the additional obligation to register your stay here. However, if you want to extend your stay and work longer than three months, you must register your early stay within eight days of the end of the three months. On the other hand, if you are a third-country citizen, you must submit a request for digital nomad residence.
Where to Stay?
Every region in Croatia is unique and has a lot to offer. First, ask yourself, what are your priorities? Do you want an apartment with a sea view or a modern luxury villa surrounded by nature? What is your budget? Are you looking for something under 500 euros per month, or can you afford something more expensive?
For example, for 500 euros per month in the village for digital nomads in Zadar, you can get accommodation in a prefabricated house by the sea, a coworking space, and a community leader who organizes events in the village. Likewise, if you want complete luxury for around 3,000 euros per month, you can enjoy the wonderful modern Villa SaMa not far from the amazing town of Rovinj. The villa has a private pool, garden, free WiFi, and private parking. Moreover, it is decorated in a minimalist style and can accommodate up to 8 people, perfect, right?
