A road trip through the central part of the Istrian peninsula is heaven for foodies that will uncover many hidden treasures. The small town of Sveti Petar u Šumi is an unmissable spot where you might find your new favorite lunch place serving authentic Istrian food.
In the small village of Kranjci near Sv. Petar u Šumi, spouses Mihael Budak and Antonia Mrzlić Budak run a family farm and a small restaurant - konoba “Doma”. The restaurant opened its doors in 2019 and is one of the best restaurants serving indigenous Istrian specialties.

Nurturing the Local Customs of Making Food
Konoba “Doma” is one of the best farm-to-table restaurants in Istria. The Budak family farm spans about 25 hectares of land, raising pigs and chickens and cultivating a big garden. Next to various seasonal vegetables, they even source flour from their homegrown grain and use it to make delicious bread and pasta.
However, one of the unique advantages of this family-owned business is the dedication to growing and naturally preparing their food. It is rare for a restaurant to undertake the whole production of meat from start to the end. However, the Budak family proudly owns the process, from raising and feeding their livestock to every step of meat processing and production. In doing so, they have complete control over sourcing only top-quality fresh meat for their restaurant.
Enjoy a Full Plate of Fresh, Homegrown Ingredients
The family’s utterly honest approach to preparing food is reflected in each plate. In addition, the restaurant prepares authentic local specialties. On the menu, you’ll find a wide variety of specialties honoring the Istrian tradition, including homemade bread and pasta, variations of dishes made with cured meat, bruschettas, traditional desserts, and many more unique delicacies!
If you want to enjoy a delicious lunch in an intimate and friendly atmosphere while experiencing the way the locals eat, the tavern “Doma” definitely deserves a place on your map. Make sure to try one of the recommended house specials - mouth-watering barbecue pork ribs with potatoes!
Restaurant guests can also choose among the variety of homemade cured meats and purchase them on the spot. Find more info and book your visit here.
