This Croatian designer has been in the spotlight for his unique watches, but at the beginning of 2024, he's set to unveil a new exhibition featuring three significant collections: "Flow," "Flow Art," and "Flow Lines." 

Darko Mesek's journey into the world of art and design started with a simple belief in originality. He sought to reimagine forms, materials, and colors to generate fresh ideas for wall sculptures. One of his most distinctive features is his use of local and scrap wood, which brings out the best in natural shapes. Darko's objective is clear: to design a series of exceptional wall pieces that enhance living spaces with modern forms and an artistic touch. He employs various techniques and procedures to make the most of the wood he selects, always drawn to the distinctive features of each piece of wood. For him, creative work in wood is an exploration of new and unique features within the material, a journey of constant discovery.

The "Flow" Collection: Navigating Life's Meanders and Lines

The "Flow" collection is an artistic exploration of the flow of life and its dynamics, symbolized by meanders (the river of life) and parallel lines. At its core, this collection is a reflection of the intricate paths our lives often follow, filled with nuances, twists, and continuous changes. The meanders and curves dominating these artworks symbolize the journeys our lives frequently take. The parallel lines serve as a reminder of the continuity of life's flow and the moments when "distractions" and unexpected life events may interrupt it.

This collection emphasizes the dynamism of the human experience, exploring how life paths can intertwine and change over time. It also underscores the importance of embracing change and unexpected events as integral parts of our lives, striving for balance between planned routes and inevitable detours. Through this collection, Darko invites viewers to reflect on their own lives and how they relate to the unpredictable and fluid nature of life.

The "Flow Lines" and "Flow Art" Collections: Balance Between Chaos and Order

The "Flow Lines" collection explores the concept of "multiple lines of life," while the "Flow Art" collection uses irregular lines to symbolize the emotions that leave their marks throughout life. The contrast between the regular flow of shapes and irregular lines creates a composition that reflects the balance between the chaos and order of the lives we live.

In Darko's own words, "The FLOW collection works take shape as symbolic representations of life's flow. I draw inspiration from nature, where rivers meander towards the shore. Despite life's complexity, I attempt to distill it down to its essence in my pieces. Next, I uncovered lines representing our spiritual essence. These lines run parallel, showing the ideal balance of our spiritual core. Even though our physical world and lives are often characterized by diverging paths, our innermost essence is always holistic and ideal."

The "Zen" Collection: Discovering Inner Harmony

Furthermore, Darko's "Zen" collection explores the theme of our spiritual side, which is often seen as perfect and pure, much like the principles of Zen philosophy. This collection assumes that within us lies an inner harmony that can be expressed through art.

Darko explains, "The ZEN collection is about connecting with our inner selves, of finding our spiritual core. By creating these works, I hope to inspire people to reflect on their innermost selves and discover the beauty and power of their own spirit." He strives to capture this spiritual dimension through symmetrical and circular shapes, using symmetry to highlight the balance and harmony within us, and circular forms as metaphors for our "spiritual core."
