Croatia is home to a number of exclusive brands and designers whose creations reflect the country's rich culture. As a result, Croatian design uniquely interprets historical and natural beauty while committing to the highest quality and sustainability standards.
In 1924, Felix Pollack von Parnegg came from Vienna to Croatia to start a textile production company. Today, the company carries the name Textile factory Trgovišće and has a nearly century-old tradition. Having produced over a billion meters of quality fabrics, it is the leading manufacturer of the luxury table and bed linen in the area ranging from Milan to Istanbul.
The devotion to quality puts them at the forefront of in-house luxury fabric production. Products achieve intricate designs with great durability and an authentic appearance using meticulous jacquard weaving techniques. Their damasks have set the standard for timeless quality in table and bed linens. So it is no surprise that their creations grace the most exclusive properties worldwide, ranging from luxury hotels in Swiss ski resorts to upscale restaurants in London and Las Vegas.
Luxury Bedding Woven With Passion and Craftsmanship
The latest brand representing a new chapter for Textile Factory Trgovišće is called Merla - a term in the traditional Dalmatian dialect used to describe lace.
Merla stays true to the three ingredients that have been passed down through the generations: master craftsmanship, passion for weaving and creation, and responsibility towards people and nature.
Merla's contemporary bedding collections are made of carefully selected ingredients. The yarn is produced from high-quality cotton sourced from reliable origins, after which it is woven and sawn with meticulous precision. The soft and neutral colors are made using ecological dyes without harmful ingredients, and the production quality has been certified by OEKO-TEX® Standard 100. The whole process, including design, weaving, sewing, and packaging, is done in Croatia by a talented team of professionals taking care of each thread.

Focused on the Highest Quality and Sustainable Production
Merla pays special attention to ethical production and responsibility towards people and nature. The production processes are continuously adapted to reduce waste, water consumption, and the overall environmental footprint, including implementing biodegradable and reusable packaging. This means you can sleep peacefully (and comfortably!) knowing that you're doing something good for the planet.
Merla's uncompromised attention to detail is limited-edition bedding that is breathable and gentle on the skin, leaving a pleasant feeling of freshness. It is also highly durable and doesn't require any special maintenance. Even after many years of washing, its soft touch, brightness, and elegance last forever.
Enter the Luxury Bedroom Heaven
Merla bed linen sets are available for purchase at merla.hr, as well as the newly opened flagship store in Zagreb. The store features a nuanced design concept developed by architects Marina Brletić from the Brikoler interior design studio and Jelena Babić from the Salon 33 studio. This unique space follows the idea of weaving mastery and the highest quality materials for bedding, such as damask.
Neutral colors provide a calm yet refreshing atmosphere that highlights the various designs and textures of bedding. The space centers around a large stone table, where the bed linen can be spread out and felt. It is also intended as a centerpiece of the "craftsman's workshop" - a meeting place for weaving masters and creatives who'll recognize Merla's true artisanal value. The Merla store is located in Teslina 5, Zagreb. Opening hours are Mon-Fri from 9 am - 8 pm, and Sat from 9 am - 3 pm.
No matter where you find yourself in Croatia, the indulgence doesn't have to end with your trip. Discover the beauty of exquisite Croatian design and keep a dash of luxury with you at all times - even in your sleep
